Keeping a louvered roof flawless: cleaning and care made easy

A louvered roof gives a terrace contemporary style and protection in any weather, and it is an investment in comfort, design and function. To keep it looking its best and running smoothly for years, the right care is essential. With a little attention and the right cleaning routine, the aesthetics are preserved and the service life of the system is significantly extended.
This article explains why regular care matters, how to clean a louvered roof or pergola correctly, and which tips help keep an INODEQ system in top condition for a long time.
Why regular care matters
A high-quality louvered roof is extremely resilient, but not maintenance-free. Dust, pollen, leaves, bird droppings and environmental influences settle on the louvers over time and can affect both the material and the mechanics. Without regular care, both appearance and function suffer.
Benefits of regular care:
- Preserves the value of the louvered roof
- Smooth operation of louvers and drive technology
- Durability and reliable weather protection
- A clean, refined appearance
How often should a louvered roof be cleaned?
The cleaning frequency depends on several factors: location, season and intensity of use. As a rule of thumb, we recommend:
- A thorough cleaning twice a year (spring and autumn)
- Light cleaning every 2 to 3 months, especially where there are many leaves or high pollen levels
- Maintenance every 5 years by a specialist, for example the INODEQ team

Step-by-step cleaning guide
With the right preparation, cleaning a louvered roof is straightforward, and it makes a real difference to appearance and function.
What you need:
- Water connection or garden hose
- Soft cleaning brush or sponge
- Microfiber cloths
- The INODEQ cleaning set (available in the shop)
- Bucket of lukewarm water
How to proceed:
- Move the louvers to the open position
- Rinse off coarse dirt with water
- Clean with a soft sponge or cloth and a mild cleaner
- Clean the frame and posts as well
- Rinse everything with clean water
- Dry with a microfiber cloth
Tip: clean on an overcast day so that sunlight does not leave water spots.

What to do about stubborn dirt?
Some dirt cannot simply be wiped away, for example:
- Bird droppings: remove immediately with plenty of water, as they are corrosive
- Pollen and blossom dust: soak with plenty of water and rinse off
- Resin: loosen carefully with plenty of water, patience and a soft brush
Always avoid abrasive cleaners and hard sponges: they can damage the surface.
Avoid mistakes: what not to do
Incorrect cleaning is a common cause of damage to louvered roofs. Please note:
✖ No pressure washers: the water pressure can damage seals or coatings
✖ No aggressive chemicals: they attack the powder coating
✖ No metal brushes or rough sponges: they scratch aluminum
✓ Never use aggressive cleaners containing solvents: they attack the powder coating.
When to call in a professional
Some tasks are best left to a specialist, especially mechanical problems or long-term measures to preserve value.
✓ Professional maintenance every 5 years by the INODEQ team extends the service life.
